VERMONT
MUST SEES
- Celebrate the bicentennial of President Abraham Lincoln’s birth at Hildene, the mansion that was home to his son, Robert. Fascinating tour; glorious grounds. Just outside Manchester.
- Near Burlington, the Shelburne Museum is a treasure trove of Americana. In the 39 buildings, many historic, are quilts and folk art, furniture and Impressionist masterpieces.
- In Woodstock, visit the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park and the Billings Farm & Museum, a working farm dating from 1871. Watch the bald eagles, hawks and falcons at VINS, the Vermont Institute of Natural Science.
- In Bennington, the Bennington Museum is known for having the largest public collection of paintings by folk artist ‘Grandma Moses’.
- At the Vermont Teddy Bear Company in Shelburne, you can see bears being made and even design your own cuddly toy.
- The Athenaeum in St Johnsbury looks like a gentleman’s club but is actually a public library and art gallery. The highlight is the vast Domes of Yosemite, painted by Albert Bierstadt.
