Mystic Music - Celebrate the Golden Age of Sailing in New England

Mystic, Connecticut

Coast into Mystic Seaport, Connecticut this summer (12-13 June 2015) to discover the world of traditional maritime music and some of America’s oldest sailing ships at the Sea Music Festival, one of the world’s premier sea music events.

Join hundreds of fans of traditional sea music at Mystic Seaport, the world’s largest maritime museum, and witness talented international musicians perform numbers from the Golden Age of Sail right through to charming, contemporary compositions.

The weekend festival features a plethora of daytime and evening concerts,  performances specially designed for children, workshops and the rare opportunity to enjoy traditional sea music amongst Mystic’s historic vessels, such as the famous 1841 Charles W. Morgan whaleship

Music lovers captivated by the mystical sounds of the sea can also take part in the ‘Music of the Sea Symposium’, a two-day programme exploring the enchanting relationship between the sea, music and song through discussion of history, folklore and literacy. The Symposium will take place at Mystic Seaport on 12 June, and then at the Olin Science Center in neighbouring New London on 13 June.

More than a museum, Mystic Seaport is America’s maritime hub offering a wide-berth of activity. Ponder America’s greatest sailing accomplishments by climbing  aboard tall ships and exploring the Charles W. Morgan, the world’s last whaleship, discovering a recreated 19th century village, a preserved working shipyard, or by sailing the Mystic River aboard Mystic Seaport’s charming wooden coalfield steamboat – the Sabino.

Situated in the heart of Mystic, a quintessential New England seaside village, festival-goers will find plenty to explore surrounded by more than 300 years of shipbuilding history. Since the 1600s this area has been at the forefront of America’s old shipbuilding industry, and between 1784 and 1919 – the Golden Age of American Maritime enterprise – over 600 vessels were constructed here.
