New England has many authentic pubs and lively bars, in the city and country. Claiming to be the oldest pub in the USA is the White Horse Tavern in Newport, Rhode Island, dating back to 1673. The legal age to drink alcohol is 21, and ID is required.

Rhode Island: get out into Newport’s harbor on a speedboat or a sailboat, or on a 12-meter America’s Cup yacht.

Vermont: from Burlington, cruise on Lake Champlain.
