On Wednesday, 28 September 2016 Aer Lingus will launch its first direct flight from Dublin Airport to Hartford Bradley International Airport in Connecticut. This new four times weekly service will position Hartford as New England’s second international gateway, alongside Boston Logan International Airport.

Not only does Aer Lingus open up a direct route to New England for Irish travellers but Brits can also reap the benefits of flying this route by clearing US customs in Ireland before arriving into the United States.  Visitors will clear customs faster but as Hartford Bradley International Airport is a small airport, located right on the interstate, the holiday can begin much quicker too.

Flying into Connecticut is also a more cost effective option for travellers. Quotes from Hertz showed that car rental for a two week holiday in October £484.14 cheaper at Hartford Bradley International Airport than JFK International Airport.

Hartford is Connecticut’s state capital and not only does it boast boutique shopping, the vibrant Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, and a booming culinary scene but also wonderful historic buildings, such as the Old State House; the Center Church, with stained glass windows by Louis Tiffany; and the Wadsworth Athenaeum, a castle-like structure that has refurbished sculpture garden and a collection of many fine paintings of the Hudson River School of art.

Over the years Hartford has been home to many legendary writers including The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn author Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe, who wrote the iconic Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Travellers can enjoy tours of both of their Hartford homes.

Located right in the heart of Connecticut, Hartford is an ideal starting point for any New England adventure. Just a 40 minute from Yale University and the Yale Center for British Art in the bustling city of New Haven, an hour from the Berkshire Mountains in Western Massachusetts and Mystic Seaport in South Eastern Connecticut, and just two hours from Boston or the spectacular Newport Mansions in Rhode Island, the many culinary, sea and outdoor adventures available in New England are all easily accessible.

Prices:
Each-way fares including taxes and charges start from £199 departing from the UK or from £175 departing from Dublin.
