DNE cooperative opportunities: GERMANY
Germany is the #2 European market for overseas travelers heading to the United States, and the #3 overseas market after the UK and Japan. According to the U.S. Office of Travel and Tourism Industries, over 1.7 million German travelers came to the United States in 2010.
Travel is a priority for most Germans, and those traveling to America tend to have higher incomes and stay for an average of two weeks. They particularly enjoy the fall foliage season (which they call ‘Indian Summer’), nature and national parks, outdoor activities, coastal holidays, and history/heritage experiences. In general, they are interested in good food specific to the region and love distinct ‘authentic’ holiday experiences.
Market Overview: 2010
- German visitation to the U.S. increased 2% over 2009 and 46% since 2003.
- German travelers to the U.S. spent $5.7 billion in 2010, up 4% from the previous year.
